Links to other interesting places on the web. Cruise at your own risk, I’m not responsible for time wasted!
Local:
The Alibi: Where to click for info, lowdowns, reviews, humor, music and the scoop on all the things that make Albuquerque hip.
- RockSquawk.com: Local music forum. As in, the forum where all the local musicians hang out. Go here to discuss everything from music theory to donkey punching.
Jupiters Collision: Handy one stop site for music info, gossip, and release dates. Keep your eye on this site, I suspect a juggernaut in the making.
University of New Mexico: For all your regional and national higher education needs. Nationally recognized research programs, unique architecture, and a funnel for all the amazing cultures for which NM is home. I <3 UNM. GO LOBOS!
Center for Southwest Research: I’ve had the honor to be the Popejoy Fellow for the academic year 2007-2008. Check out the work we’ve done. Get your learn on!
iQ magazine: aside from their unfortunate apostrophe abuse, this local mag has the most well-rounded art calendars I’ve seen. Dig art? Check out local shows!
City of Albuquerque: With a spiffy new design since I last visited, and all the propaganda you need to make you move here. Also, a place to pay your water bill!
Political:
Think Progress: Here you have it, my bias. Excellent source of news, videos, snippets and transcripts with which to inform your political view. To balance out everyone’s daily dose of Fox News.
Media Matters: You can’t have a well-rounded RSS feed without this little guy in there somewhere. They’ll flood your RSS feed, but you can’t go wrong with any of the articles you choose to read. Thought-provoking and intensly political, as such writing should be. Controversial (only to the Right) and thorough, they have an opinion on everything. Just like me!
Tech:
Ubuntu: Let’s get some things straight. You need this operating system. Once you install it (FREE FREE FREE) you will never again want to use your computer at work. My one everlasting hope is that anyone who’s used computers for more than 5 years out of their lives comes to see the light. Linux FTW, as the geeks say. What are you waiting for? DO IT!
Electronic Frontier Foundation: The fact that you’re online right now tells me that you probably have dozens of accounts and passwords, have probably downloaded illegal music, and have clicked a bazillion times on the “I agree with the Terms of Service” check box. Am I wrong? No? Then start reading buster, because these folks want to make sure the digital world remains free and protected for all of us.
The Sciences:
Live Science: A great way to keep updated on the latest development in the hard sciences. Fascinating articles and amazing photographs.
