I've been blessed to share the name Benito and people often refer to Benito Musolini when they hear the name to which I inform them that Musolini was actually named after the great Mexican President Benito Juarez. I was also fortunate enough to travel to Oaxaca with my mother when I was in college... about 12 years ago and it was an amazing experience.

Congresswoman Bachman got pwned. More hysterical xenophobia from white Americans... can't say I'm surprised, only disappointed. As a white American myself (albeit one who grew up around Latinos and Iranians and has lived in Latin America), I try to do better.

It's funny how USers claim to embrace cultural and ethnic diversity (it's thankfully become unacceptable - for the most part - to express racist attitudes in our country) yet has a 180 approach to linguistic diversity, where even many liberals tacitly accept the supremacy of English in the US. I can't wait for the day when linguistic diversity is celebrated here, and especially when it becomes a natural part of the country's governing structure - it shouldn't be considered strange to see street and shop signs in a language other than English, yet many people are uncomfortable with that.

Kudos, Ruth. Glad to see you're making an effort. Interested in your resource re: China/raw material. When you get your bike, let me know if you need some resources for free tune-ups and what not.

Ahhh, your finding a replacement frisbee player...how sad. I guess I will need all the free time I have now that I am not playing frisbee for extemporaneous activities such as keeping up with all your writings and political gatherings:)
